With new-build housing at its lowest level since 1927, and a shortfall in one bedroomed dwellings that runs into hundreds of thousands, the bedroom tax is a sham of the first order, especially as people are forced into the private sector where rents (and the subsequent bill to the exchequer) are considerably higher due to the greed and social carelessness of the rentier class.
